ELITE AFL PROGRAM
Background
Our goal is to develop the highest quality, well adjusted, elite AFL athletes in Perth. We work with both males and females.
SPECIALISING IN ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT
With clubs & programs pitching for the AFL U18 combine, the greatest challenge we currently face is developing athletes early enough to ensure players are ready for elite testing and high performance programs.
HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
Our program is a significant step up from Club land and broad based academy programs.
ONE-ON-ONE TUITION + GROUP SESSIONS
We deliver one-on-one tuition tailored to both age, skill, understanding of the game and of course position within the team. For example, if a player is considered a forward line player, we cover and focus on forward line craft.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACHES
Don’t be afraid with strength and conditioning especially for adolescents. For over 20 years we’ve watched young athletes obtain career ending injuries, primarily because - whilst they pitched for academy selection - they did not train the most basic S&C foundations. This meant they lacked structurally integrity when it mattered the most. As a result, we’ve watched u19 footballers look at their second shoulder reconstruction, as a result of poor coaching and poor player management. S&C foundations need to start earlier in a players careers. Why? Players don’t benefit from pre-season, until toward the end of the home and away season. It’s a fact. S&C is no different.
Male & Female
We focus on both male and female athletes. We’ve coached senior female programs and appreciate that you MUST tailor the approach to suit both genders. The AFL has some amazing resources for this; in and around psychological drivers and how different the coaching approach needs to be between male and female players.
QUALIFIED NUTRITIONISTS
Let’s be very clear: a young athlete will find it extremely difficult to become elite, if they do not learn to own their diet. Doing so means they learn to understand how diet shapes peak performance: both prior to, during, and after a game.
There is a secondary element here. Once a young footballer owns their diet and nutrition plan, they are then in a position to own recovery and when needed, rehab. We teach these linkages with some specific techniques. These skills deliver positive mental health outcomes and a more balanced view around elite performance, image and body composition. This is why we hire and pay for, the best nutritionists for our players.
SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITES
We have an extraordinary list of corporate partners. Our players will secure preferential access to them in the hope partners stay with them throughout their career.
CAREER MAPPING / GUIDANCE
Dovetailing training with schooling, education and a future career outside of AFL, is absolutely paramount. It is a non-negotiable. We will not take on a player who is not committed to their education or furthering their career away from footy.
SPORT SPECIFIC FOCUS
Some sports compliment AFL however, it is almost impossible to pitch to be an elite athlete in more than one code. We take players through the relevant scenarios and advise / monitor accordingly. This is specifically important to prevent overuse injuries.
IN-GAME VIDEO + VISUAL TRAINING MEDIA
We provide a myriad of pre-season and in-season multi media coaching. Players learn in different ways. So we utilise white boards, diagrams and YouTube video. We also cut & paste specific content from commercial TV to visually show tactics, strategy, game style, bad habits etc. We back this up with white board tutorials and team briefings. We also take video of players during games throughout the season. We tailor the entire approach based on the players ability to absorb and retain information, always understanding their limitations and the need to compliment their club coach and to NOT over coach.
PRICING & PROGRAM
We like to work from Nov / Dec through to the AFL Final series: based of course on age, competition, gender etc. We start late in the year as this means we can establish good patterns well before the season starts. Depending on the player we won’t pick up a football until Feb. It’s totally about establishing the foundations.

Program Material
Nutrition
We engage nutritionist’s who understand AFL and adolescent development. We take players through the entire nutrion cycle and prepare their meal plans for them based on the time of year and
Stretching & Flexibility
You will be amazed and how many AFL players lack flexibility. Flexibility is the key to fitness and more importantly, injury prevention and recovery. We use the most basic systems adopted by elite practitioners to explain how crucial the fundamentals are. We also separate programs based on training intensity - pre-season v in-season v recovery etc.
Running
We’ve worked with the best running coaches in Australia. We’ve also coached AFL players who went on to be professional umpires on the MCG in front of 80,000 spectators who have a 3km PB of sub 7min. Our coaches focus on AFL and tailor the program to the player, their size, body composition and position on the field. For example, a full back generally needs a vastly different running and conditioning program to a mid-fielder.
Philosophy
Whilst our program is extremely unique and focussed, we take every piece of information from 20+ years of experience to develop a tailored solution. By all means adapt and improve programs, but a lot of legacy material is wholesome and very good material. Secondly, Whilst pathway change, it’s crucial to explain these to players. Players need to know what the road map to elite looks like.
Detail
A great deal of material is produced for coaches by the AFL and yet, a majority is actually never passed on to players due to players being lost in the club scene. Potential elite footballers need to understand the game better than anyone else. So we teach them the WHY in ways no one else does, with the understanding of their ability to retain information. One thing we DO NOT do, is over coach.
Skill Development
Some will laugh at this section. But that’s ok. What they miss is that the best players do the little thing (the one percenters) exceptionally well.
We have a massive focus on skill development and work tirelessly with players to improve skills and to ensure we compliment current coaching principles at their club. If one of our players needs to work on something - determined by their Coach - then we work on it. Coaches are very limited when it comes to one-on-one tuition. That’s where we come in. Secondly, a number of clubs have a ‘game style’ that they consistently teach across grades. Players can become easily lost by this, but we support and reinforce these principles away from the club and group environment.
In saying this, if players are not interested in improving, honing and focussing on the basics, we don’t take them on.
Video
Video is crucial in teaching the key elements of anything, let alone AFL. What we find though is that TV commentary is so complex younger players have trouble grasping the key themes.
We video players at their games throughout the season - both via drone technology and normal video techniques (where legally appropriate to do so). We also take specific video off YouTube and cut commercial TV footage to highlight specific points and game based elements to players.
