Keeping it SIMPLE
INTRODUCTION
At SMEA we analyse policy. And we are aware that the world is becoming increasingly complex. We believe it’s being designed this way but for us, and the thousands of SMEs we’ve worked with over 15 years the answer is in simplicity.
Below are our thoughts on what needs to change. It’s our BLUE PRINT for a brighter future.

Energy Policy
We can crunch numbers for hours and debate the value of renewables v coal and yet we all still appreciate that electricity prices are ballooning to levels few SMEs can sustain. It’s making running a SME expensive. We need renewables but what about Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)? Why are SMRs not being actively discussed when they are clean and the most advanced form of energy generation?
In our view, we need to phase out dirty base load power generation and yes, we need renewables. But we also must look at SMRs and it’s why we joined the SMR Australia Consortium. CLICK to find out more.
Environmental Policy
Our view is that we need to take the environmental debate away from political influence and BEYOND GREEN. Locking things up in the name of conservation isn’t the solution. Educating people and ensuring they are part of the solution is.
Tax Reform
There is so much talk about tax reform and yet nothing gets done. Some of our solutions are as follows:
Abolish PAYROLL tax. Payroll tax is a disincentive to hire staff. Plus State and Territory Governments agreed to abolish payroll tax in return for the GST. They did not follow through with this promise.
Do not increase the GST.
Let’s simplify the income tax system by implementing a flat tax.
