The Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a methodology for identifying the most important limiting factor (i.e. constraint) that stands in the way of achieving a goal. Companies like ours (SMEA) then work to systematically improve that constraint until it is no longer the limiting factor.
I appreciate TOC takes a scientific approach to improvement, but so it should. The problem with a lot of SMEs is that they use their 'gut feel'. TOC hypothesizes that every complex system within a business, consists of multiple linked activities. One of some of these links, may act as a constraint upon the entire system.
