Why should SMEs embrace 'Theory of Constraints'

The Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a methodology for identifying the most important limiting factor (i.e. constraint) that stands in the way of achieving a goal. Companies like ours (SMEA) then work to systematically improve that constraint until it is no longer the limiting factor.

I appreciate TOC takes a scientific approach to improvement, but so it should. The problem with a lot of SMEs is that they use their 'gut feel'. But let's be honest, your 'gut' doesn't always analyse effectively nor deliver the most appropriate solution.  TOC hypothesizes that every complex system within a business, consists of multiple linked activities. One of some of these links, may act as a constraint upon the entire system.

TOC is applicable to any size business within almost any field. We have tools to define and address constraints and the beauty of our model is that we don't hang around. Once the constraint is identified and fixed, we leave you alone. The risk of not addressing the constraint(s) is multi-faceted in that you may be working harder than you need to or simply not hitting your targets.
